September, 2024 - What is happening in Ghana?
Fifty-four (54) individuals have been arrested and detained by Ghana’s police for participating in the anti-galamsey protests held from September 21st to September 23rd 2024. The protests named “Re-Occupy Julorbi” was organized in response to the growing dangers of illegal mining in the country.
The detained protesters have been denied contact with their families, food, water, bail, and legal counsel. Galamsey is not a local crisis but rather a national emergency! Ghana is more than a holiday location, it holds approximately 35 million lives that must be protected. Corruption is fueling galamsey - we must fight against it.
Galamsey is not just an economic issue; it’s a crisis that threatens our water bodies, forests, and the very future of Ghana. We must prioritize sustainable practices.
